An inauguration in the Chinese city of Shenzhen in August 2019 but put on hold owing to the advent of the pandemic, the ITTF World Veteran Tour returns to the international calendar.
Furthermore, the initiative has an effect on the ITTF World Veteran Championships to be staged in Muscat, the capital of Oman, from Sunday 15th to Saturday 21st January.
The International Table Tennis Federation has launched the theme “World Veteran Tour – Road to Oman”.
Four tournaments comprise the itinerary, the continents of Africa, Americas and Europe being involved.
Thursday 8th – Sunday 11th September 2022: Otocec, Slovenia
Friday 14th – Sunday 16th October 2022: Loutraki, Greece
Thursday 3rd – Sunday 6th November 2022: Djerba, Tunisia
Wednesday 14th – Saturday 17th December: Los Angeles, USA
Most notably every event winner will receive a free entry for the 2023 World Veteran Championships; additionally, all participants of the Tour will benefit from a 10 per cent discount with respect to the entry fee.
Age groups planned are similar as for the 2023 World Veteran Championships - 40-49, 50-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, and 80 plus.
All events whenever possible will organised on a group basis followed by knock-out; men’s singles and women’s singles alongside men’s doubles and women’s doubles events are planned for each tournament.
The Tour will also include a ranking system; thus, adding interest to the concept.
